leukotriene receptor antagonist (loo-koh-try-een) n. one of a class of drugs that prevent the action of leukotrienes (chemicals involved in inflammatory reactions and the immune response) by blocking their receptors on cell membranes, such as those in the airways. These drugs are used in the treatment of asthma; they include montelukast (Singulair) and zafirlukast (Accolate), both of which are administered by mouth.
