co-trimoxazole (koh-tri-moks-ă-zohl) n. an antibacterial drug consisting of sulfamethoxazole (a sulphonamide) and trimethoprim. Co-trimoxazole is taken by mouth or administered by intravenous infusion for treating Pneumocystis pneumonia, toxoplasmosis, and nocardiasis. Side-effects may be severe. Trade name: Septrin.
