prothoracicotropic hormone (PTTH) An insect hormone, released by glands (corpora allata) on either side of the brain, that stimulates release of the moulting hormone, ecdysone, from the prothoracic glands. PTTH isolated from the moth Manduca Sexta is a 30-kDa protein consisting of two identical peptide chains.
