whelks Shellfish; several types of spiral‐shelled marine molluscs, Buccinum undatum, Fusus antiquus. A 100‐g portion of flesh (670 g in the shell) is a rich source of protein, niacin, vitamin B12, and iron; supplies 100  kcal (420 kJ).
