γ‐carboxyglutamate A derivative of the amino acid glutamate whose formation requires vitamin K. It is found in prothrombin and other enzymes involved in blood clotting and the protein osteocalcin and matrix Gla protein in bone, where it has a function in ensuring the correct crystallization of bone mineral.
