thank †throught; †kindly thought, favour, gratitude; expression of gratitude (now only pl. thanks). OE. þanc = OS. thank, MDu., OHG. danc (Du., G. dank), Goth. þagks :- Gmc. *þaŋkaz, f. *þank-, *þeŋk- (see THINK).
So thank vb. OE. þancian. Comps. thankoffering, thanksgiving XVI. Hence thankful showing gratitude; †deserving gratitude. OE. þancfull. thankless ungrateful; that brings no thanks. XVI. phr. thank you XV for I thank you.
