-teen OE. *-tīene, -tēne, -tȳne = OS. -tein, OHG. -zehan, Goth. -taihun (Du. -tien, G. -zehn), inflected form of TEN added to cardinals from three to nine. Based on these are the ordinals in -teenth (-TH2) ME. -tenþe, alt. (by assim. to TEN) of -teþe, OE. -teo(go)ða, corr. to OHG. -zehanto (Du. -tiende, G. -zehnte), ON. -tándi.
Hence teenage, teenager XX.
