alumium (1808).
Aluminum (now U.S.) is parallel to
alumina (XVIII), modL. formation on the type of
magnesia,
potassa,
soda for the ‘earth of alum’, aluminium oxide. f. L.
alūmen,
alūmin- ALUM.
So
aluminous (F.
