naughty naughty but nice expressing the temptation of something which, while essentially reprehensible, is also pleasurable. ‘It's Naughty but It's Nice’ is recorded as a song title of 1871, and Naughty but Nice was an early film, but the phrase gained prominence in the late 20th century through an advertisement for cream cakes in the early 1980s.
naughty nineties the 1890s, regarded as a time of liberalism and permissiveness, especially in Britain and France; the term is first recorded in 1925.
