Pitcairn Islands a British dependency comprising a group of volcanic islands in the South Pacific, east of French Polynesia. Pitcairn Island was discovered in 1767, and remained uninhabited until settled in 1790 by mutineers from HMS Bounty and their Tahitian companions, some of whose descendants still live there.
