Haw-haw, Lord nickname given to William Joyce (1906–46), who made propaganda broadcasts in English from Nazi Germany; the nickname referred to his drawling nasal delivery, thought to mimic the ‘haw-haw’ quality supposedly typical of upper-class speech.
