Harun ar-Rashid (763–809), fifth Abbasid caliph of Baghdad 786–809. The most powerful of the Abbasid caliphs, he was made famous by his portrayal in the Arabian Nights, and is known particularly for his custom of walking the streets of his city in disguise.
