wave frequency Number of complete oscillations or wave cycles produced in one second, measured in hertz. It can be calculated from the wave velocity divided by wavelength. By quantum theory, the frequency of any electromagnetic radiation (such as light, radio waves, and X-rays) is proportional to the energy of the component photons.
