monocotyledon
monocotyledon Subclass of flowering plants (
angiosperms) characterized by one seed leaf (
cotyledon) in the seed embryo; the leaves are usually parallel-veined. Examples include lilies, onions, orchids, palms, and grasses. The larger subclass of plants is
dicotyledon.
