missile Unmanned and self-propelled flying weapon. Ballistic missiles travel in the outer atmosphere, and can be powered only by rockets. Cruise missiles travel in the lower atmosphere, and can be powered by jet engines. Guided missiles carry self-contained guidance systems or are guided by radio.
