hearing Process by which sound
waves are experienced.
Sound waves enter the auditory canal of the
ear and vibrate the eardrum. The vibrations are transmitted by three small bones to the
cochlea, where receptors generate nerve impulses that pass via the auditory nerve to the brain to be interpreted.
