gallium (symbol Ga) Grey metallic element of group III of the periodic table. It was discovered in 1875. Chief sources are bauxite and some zinc ores. The metal is used in lasers, semiconductors, and high-temperature thermometers. Properties: at.no. 31; r.a.m. 69.72; r.d. 5.9; m.p. 29.78°C (85.60°F); b.p. 2403°C (4357°F); most common isotope Ga69 (60.4%).
