Wenceslas, Saint

Wenceslas, Saint (907–29) Prince of Bohemia and patron saint of the Czechs. In c.925, he overthrew his mother who, as regent, had persecuted Christians. Wenceslas continued the Christianization of the country, which, together with his submission to the Germans, aroused opposition. He was killed by his brother and successor, Bolesław I.
