Stark, Dame Freya Madeline
Stark, Dame Freya Madeline (1893–1993) British explorer and writer, b. France. Stark travelled widely in the Middle East, especially Arabia, and gained fame with her classics of travel literature. The Valley of the Assassins (1934) describes her journeys in Iran. Stark's travels in the Hadramaut (Yemen) were recorded in The Southern Gates of Arabia (1936).
