Prince (1960– ) US singer-songwriter and guitarist, b. Prince Rogers Nelson. A prolific songwriter and recording artist, he first achieved major success with the album Purple Rain (1984). Other albums include Sign o' the Times (1988), Lovesexy (1988), and Diamonds and Pearls (1990). In 1995 he became “the artist formerly known as Prince”.
