Petöfi, Sándor

Petöfi, Sándor (1823–49) Hungarian poet and revolutionary, whose poems reflected his radical views. His writings include Versek (1844) and a novel A Hóhér Kötele (1845). His poetry was an inspiration to the patriots of the Hungarian revolution of 1848, in which he was killed.
