Olaf II, Saint

Olaf II, Saint (995–1030) ( Olaf Haraldsson) Norwegian king (1015–30) and patron saint of Norway. He introduced Christianity, but this was unpopular with chiefs, who rebelled, backed by Canute II of Denmark. In 1028, Olaf was forced into exile and died in battle at Stikelstad. Following reports of miracles at his grave, he was canonized in 1164. His feast day is July 29.
