Hellenistic Age
Hellenistic Age (323–30 bc) Period of classical Mediterranean history from
Alexander the Great to the reign of
Augustus. Alexander's conquests helped to spread Greek civilization over a wide area east of the Mediterranean. The age was distinguished by remarkable scientific and technological advances, especially in
Alexandria, and by more elaborate and naturalistic styles in the visual arts.
