Girondins

Girondins Political group in the French Revolution named after deputies from Gironde, sw France. From 1792 the relatively moderate and middle-class Girondins tried to prevent the execution of Louis XVI, and reduce the power of Paris. The Jacobins expelled the Girondins from the National Congress in 1793, and executed their leaders.
