Flynn, Errol (1909–59) US film actor, b. Tasmania. He made his name with Captain Blood (1935), and won worldwide fame playing romantic, swashbuckling heroes, as in The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938). He had a scandalous off-screen reputation, and published an autobiography, My Wicked, Wicked Ways (1959).
