Criminal Investigation Department

Criminal Investigation Department (CID) Non- uniformed branch of the London Metropolitan Police (founded 1878) dealing with the prevention and investigation of crime, and with the preparation of information on criminal trends. There are c.1600 CID officers, whose headquarters are at New Scotland Yard.
