Creek
Creek Confederation of
Native Americans, part of the Muskogean-language group. One of the largest groups of
se USA, they ranged from Georgia to Alabama. They formed a settled, agricultural society, with land owned communally. Within the confederacy, individual settlements had a degree of autonomy. After the Creek Wars (1813–14), they were removed to Oklahoma, where
c.60,000 remain today.
