Cooperative Wholesale Society

Cooperative Wholesale Society Organization formed in the north of England in 1863 to provide for consumer cooperation. It was a development of the early cooperative experiments of Robert Owen and the Rochdale Pioneers, which encouraged consumers to form their own retail societies and share the profits among themselves, eliminating the middleman.
