Canute II

Canute II ( the Great) (994–1035) King of Denmark (1014–28), England (1017–35), and Norway (1028–29). He accompanied his father, Sweyn, on the Danish invasion of England (1013). After his father's death (1014), he was accepted as joint king of Denmark with his brother and later became sole king. He invaded England again (1015) and divided it (1016) with the English king Edmund Ironside. He was accepted as king after Edmund's death. His rule was a just and peaceful one. He restored the church and codified English law. His reign in Scandinavia was more turbulent. He conquered Norway (1028), made one son king of Denmark (1028) and another king of Norway (1029).
