Blitz, the
Blitz, the Name used by the British to describe the night bombings of British cities by the German
Luftwaffe (air force) in 1940–41. It is an abbreviation of
Blitzkrieg (lightning war), the name used by the German army to describe hard-hitting, surprise attacks on enemy forces.
