Skinner, BurrhusFrederic (1904–90)An American psychologist, who pioneered the study of behaviourism and made important contributions to the understanding of operant conditioning. He was drawn to behaviourism by the work of I. P.Pavlov. Among his many publications, the best known include The Behavior of Organisms (1938), Walden Two (1948), and Science and Human Behavior (1953). He was professor of psychology at Indiana University (1945–48) and professor of psychology at Harvard University from 1948 until his retirement in 1974.
