peridotite model A model for the composition of the Earth's upper
mantle based on compressional and
S-wave velocities and gravity data. The probable composition is
peridotite,
eclogite, or an intermediate between the two.
Xenoliths in
kimberlites, and
mafic volcanic rocks found at the surface, also suggest this composition.
