destructive margin
destructive margin The contact between two lithospheric
plates which are moving towards each other and where
oceanic crust is being destroyed by
subduction. Destructive margins, a type of
convergent margin, are marked by shallow-to deep-focus
earthquakes and typically andesitic
volcanicity, and most are also marked by an oceanic
trench. See
