Red Sea An elongate basin, 2000 km long, with shorelines 360 km apart at the widest point and only 28 km apart where it joins the Gulf of Aden. The Red Sea has an inner
median valley, associated with a positive
gravity anomaly, containing
basalts and hot brines, and the sea is thought to be at the young stage of the
Wilson cycle of an ocean.
