wired-program computer

wired-program computer A digital computer, usually a special-purpose one, in which the sequence of operations is fixed and cannot be easily altered. The sequence may take different paths in accordance with data-dependent conditions. Speed of operation and reliability may be gained at a cost in flexibility.
