characteristic vector
1. A vector of bits representing a set in a finite universe. If the universe has n elements a1, a2,…, an then any set, A, can be represented by a vector of n bits where the ith bit is 1 if and only if ai A.

2. English form of eigenvector. See eigenvalue.
