MAC layer

MAC layer Short for media access control layer. One or more layers in a protocol stack that deal(s) with the issues of allowing a transmitter, wishing to send information, to gain access to the actual transmission medium. In particular the MAC layer is usually responsible for the resolution of contention for access to the transmission medium.
