Internet Society (ISOC) A professional membership society that promotes the use and future development of the Internet. It has individual and organization members all over the world and is governed by an elected board of trustees. ISOC coordinates various groups responsible for Internet infrastructure. These include the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF), the Internet Architecture Board (IAB), and the Internet Engineering Steering Group (IESG). The IETF develops technical standards for the Internet. The IAB has overall responsibility for the architecture and adjudicates on disputes about standards. The IESG, along with the IAB, reviews standards proposed by the IETF. See also IANA.
