IBM-compatible
IBM-compatible A computer functionally identical to an IBM PC and able to accept all hardware and software intended for it. This was an important concept in the early 1980s when the IBM PC was emerging from among a number of other contenders as the one to copy. As IBM's share of the market declined, the term became
PC-compatible.
