Vānaprastha

Vānaprastha. The third of the four āśramas, or stages of life, of the Hindu. The term meant literally ‘forest departure’, a time of retirement when a householder, having raised his children and made them independent, devoted himself, with or without his wife's company, to preparing for death and the next stage of his existence.
