Tohorah (Heb., ‘purification’). The Jewish ceremony of washing the dead before burial. The justification for tohorah is the Ecclesiastes verse, ‘As he came, so shall he go’ (5. 15). Progressive Jews have abandoned the practice. See also PURITY.
