Soteriology. The doctrine of
salvation (Gk.,
sōtēria). In Christian theology this means the saving work of God in the
incarnation and especially the
atonement, and through
grace. The doctrines of the
Fall and of
sin are presuppositions. See also
REDEMPTION.
More widely, the term is used of any discussion of salvation or its equivalent in other religions.
