Puruṣārtha

Puruṣārtha. The four legitimate goals of life for high-caste Hindus. The first is dharma, which controls the others, since it embraces appropriate belief and behaviour. The second is artha, material goods and wealth. The third is kāma, which is enjoyment of the senses. The fourth transcends the others, since it is mokṣa, liberation.
