Palm Sunday. The Sunday before
Easter which thus commences
Holy Week. Palms are blessed and carried in procession, representing Jesus' ‘triumphal entry’ into Jerusalem in the last week of his life. The service may also include the chanting of the passion story from one of the gospels, and for that reason is also known as Passion Sunday (a name which is also given to the preceding Sunday:
Vatican II attempted to combine the two).
