Ishmael ben Elisha

Ishmael ben Elisha (early 2nd cent. CE). Jewish sage. The son of a priest, Rabbi Ishmael was one of the chief spokesmen of the sages of Jabneh. According to legend, he was one of the martyrs who was killed in the persecutions following the Bar Kokhba rebellion, but this is doubtful.
