Hayon, Nehemiah Hiyya ben Moses (
c.1655–
c.1730).
Kabbalist Jewish scholar. Hayon spent much of his life in
Erez Israel and was a prominent kabbalist. He was accused of
Shabbateanism and was the source of controversy both in Israel and in Amsterdam, where he was
excommunicated. He was the author of
Oz le-Elohim (Strength to God) and a commentary on the pamphlet
Raza de-Meheimanuta (The Mystery of the True Faith) which was attributed to Shabbetai Zevi. Ultimately he was rejected by most European communities and died in N. Africa.
