Gṛhastha

Gṛhastha (Skt., ‘standing in the home’). In Hinduism, the householder life-stage (āśrama) described in Manusmṛti. During the gṛhastha āśrama, a man establishes a household, raises a family, and pursues worldly goals such as acquisition of wealth. At age 50 the householder is to retire to the forest.
