Baʿal (Phoen., Ugaritic, etc., ‘Lord’). The weather god of the western Semites. Many of Baʿal's attributes were ascribed to the Israelite God, and certain aspects of Baʿal liturgy were taken over and adapted to the praise of the God of Israel.
