thermae. Public bathing-establishment in Classical Antiquity. The vast Roman thermae of the Imperial era embraced not only hot, medium, and cold baths, but luxuriously appointed places for exercise, athletics, and recreation, as well as formal gardens. Furthermore, the plans included room-shapes of various geometries that were influential on Renaissance and Neo-Classical planning.
