sala terrena
sala terrena. Large, formal room with direct access to a garden gained by one side being open to that garden, especially in C17 and C18 grand houses, frequently embellished with trompe l'œil and other decorations to suggest a grotto. A fine example is that at the Valds̆tejn garden, Prague (1624–7), by Pieroni.
